CITY HALL RENOVATIONS

C.I.P. NO. 95-622

Recommendation:

It is recommended that the City Council:

1. Instruct the City Clerk to post a Notice Inviting Seal Bids for the project.

(Plans are available for review in the Fire Chief's Office)

Background:

On March 12, 1996, Council entered into an agreement with Gillis & Associates Architects of Irvine, for the preparation of final contract documents, specifications, and estimates for the renovation of City Hall.

Analysis:

Three years after entering into the agreement with Gillis & Associates, and numerous plan check corrections and plan changes, Staff feels that the plans are sufficient to go to bid for the project. Staff anticipates, pending Council approval, advertising the project for a period of three (3) weeks, beginning in April, 1999. The construction documents are on file in the offices of the Fire Chief.

The scope of the project includes new construction at City Hall to comply with ADA requirements which includes a new elevator and new bathrooms on the second floor; a complete redesign of the front entry to City Hall; Council Chambers renovations, including a new audio visual system; renovation of the Public Works Department; two new offices at the Fire Department and relocating the front entry; and interior upgrading of the Administration and Finance offices (second floor).

In addition to the above items the Council Chambers will be outfitted with a new TV broadcast system. This system is not part of the Gillis & Associates scope of work and will be designed under a separate contract.
