Background:

At the November 26, 1996 council meeting the City Council approved the purchase of fire equipment for the new fire engine.

Analysis:

The Fire Department went to bid in July for the purchase of fire equipment consisting of axes, fire hose and nozzles, small tools, etc., all of which are needed to outfit the new fire engine. A request for proposal, with equipment specifications, was sent to four suppliers of fire equipment. Three companies returned bids in the following amounts:

  1. Wildfire Halprin $ 25,861.30
  2. All Star Fire Equipment $ 34,422.63
  3. LN Curtis $ 26,022.22

Due to supplier availability, equipment specified, sole source items, only All Star Fire Equipment was able to bid all items requested. The bid instructions specified that the fire department reserved the right to accept their bid in totality or purchase single items within the bid. Staff has identified the best prices within each of the three bids returned, and is proposing to purchase selected items from each company.
Fiscal Impact:

Funds have been budgeted and are available in the Fire Protection Fund and the Vehicle Replacement Fund.
