Items for Commission Consideration
CIP 00-192 Loma Area Street Improvements Mr. Tristan Malabanan of the Public Works Department presented the project in its present form, noting that the department is looking for a consensus from the community and asking that the Option Forms be completed, one form per property owner. After Mr. Malabanan’s presentation and discussion by the Commissioners, the floor was opened for questions from the audience. Several property owners expressed their opinions and Mr. Williams assured all that the goal of this project was not to lose any parking yet improving the look of the streets, that the project would be completed after both the utility undergrounding and the sewer improvements. Property owners were assured that, if requested, meeting notices would be mailed to them in the future, especially those not residing on their properties.
Southside Traffic Management Measures Mr. Richard Garland, City Contract Traffic Engineer presented a review of the current situation regarding southside traffic management, a brief history and possible alternatives for alleviating heavy traffic on several of the streets. The alternatives included:
Staff’s recommendation was to terminate any further study of the traffic management measures.
Request for Green Curb 30-Minute parking Zone to Replace 3-Hour Metered Spaces at 1001-1007 Hermosa Avenue Mr. Richard Garland, City Traffic Engineer presented this item, responding to a request from the Hermosa Beach Chamber of Commerce and Visitors Bureau asking that the three 3-hour meters in front of this location be changed to 30-minute green curb parking. Mr. Garland presented 5 options: make the change as requested, convert one or two of the spaced to unmetered green curb 30-minute parking, convert all three spaces to metered green curb 30-minute parking, convert one or two of the spaces to metered green curb 30-minute parking or maintain the status quo. Maintaining the status quo was the staff recommendation. Mr. Flaherty pointed out that mixing or changing the time limits for the area could make enforcement a problem.
Commissioners’ Reports Commissioner Lombardo reviewed the Traffic Commissioners Workshop she attended for the Commission.
Council Agenda Items Commissioner Cheatham complimented the Public Works Department, highlighting the number of hours indicated in the Monthly Activity Report for October. Mr. Williams gave brief descriptions of the items, indicating that this material was for information purposes only - to keep the Commissioners abreast of items going before Council that were in the system prior to the establishment of the Public Works Commission.
