ENERGY CONSERVATION
SETTING GOAL OF REDUCING ELECTRICITY USE BY 7% AND URGING RESIDENTS AND BUSINESSES TO REDUCE ONGOING ELECTRICITY USE BY 7%

Recommendation: That the City Council adopt a resolution setting goal of reducing electricity use by 7% and urging residents and businesses to reduce ongoing electricity use by 7%.

Background: A resolution is attached that is being considered by cities throughout California to set a goal of reducing electricity usage by 7%. This follows Governor Davis' action to have state agencies reduce their usage by 7%. These efforts contribute to ensuring that the overall electricity supply will remain adequate and reduce the threat of rolling blackouts.

In the long term, staff will be taking advantage of additional energy saving measures as it seems clear the cost of electricity will be increasing to operate all City facilities.
