AWARD CONSTRUCTION CONTRACT FOR PROJECT NO. 004-01
CONSTRUCT ACCESS RAMPS AT VARIOUS LOCATIONS

 

Recommendation :

It is recommended that the City Council:

  1. Award the Construction Contract for Portland Cement Concrete (PCC) Access Ramps to Zondiros Corporation of Torrance, California, based upon their lowest responsible bid of $18,000;
  2. Authorize the appropriation of $20,000 from the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Fund for the construction;
  3. Authorize the Mayor to execute and the City Clerk to attest the construction contract subject to approval by the City Attorney; and
  4. Authorize the Director of Public Works to make minor changes as necessary within the budget.

 

Background :

Per the request of Hermosa Beach residents and the U.S. Department of Transportation, Federal Highway Administration, California Division, Staff recommends construction of the handicap ramps at the following locations:

  1. Southwest and southeast corner of 2nd Street and Beach Drive.
  2. Southwest and southeast corner of 2nd Street and Palm Drive.
  3. Southwest and southeast corner of 2nd Street and Bayview Drive.
  4. Southeast corner of 2nd Street and Monterey Blvd.
  5. Northeast and northwest corner of 34th Street and the first alley east of Manhattan Avenue.
  6. Northwest corner of Pier Avenue and Palm Drive.

This project was advertised in the Easy Reader and Green Sheet (Construction News Reporter). The City Clerk received 2 bids by the closing date of March 19, 2001. The bids were publicly opened and read aloud. The bid results are as follows:

Analysis:

Staff has reviewed the low bidder documents and has found them to be in order and reference calls have been supportive of the contractor’s work habits.

 

Fiscal Impact :

The CDBG Fund of $787,759 for ADA Compliance Project #D96256-97 will be impacted by $20,000.
