AWARD CONSTRUCTION CONTRACT FOR PROJECT
NO. 004-01
CONSTRUCT ACCESS RAMPS AT VARIOUS LOCATIONS
Recommendation
:
It is recommended that the City Council:
- Award the Construction Contract for Portland Cement
Concrete (PCC) Access Ramps to Zondiros Corporation of
Torrance, California, based upon their lowest responsible bid
of $18,000;
- Authorize the appropriation of $20,000 from the Community
Development Block Grant (CDBG) Fund for the
construction;
- Authorize the Mayor to execute and the City Clerk to
attest the construction contract subject to approval by the
City Attorney; and
- Authorize the Director of Public Works to make minor
changes as necessary within the budget.
Background
:
Per the request of Hermosa Beach residents
and the U.S. Department of Transportation, Federal Highway
Administration, California Division, Staff recommends
construction of the handicap ramps at the following
locations:
- Southwest and southeast corner of 2nd Street and Beach
Drive.
- Southwest and southeast corner of 2nd Street and Palm
Drive.
- Southwest and southeast corner of 2nd Street and Bayview
Drive.
- Southeast corner of 2nd Street and Monterey Blvd.
- Northeast and northwest corner of 34th Street and the
first alley east of Manhattan Avenue.
- Northwest corner of Pier Avenue and Palm Drive.
This project was advertised in the Easy
Reader and Green Sheet (Construction News Reporter). The City
Clerk received 2 bids by the closing date of March 19, 2001.
The bids were publicly opened and read aloud. The bid results
are as follows:

Analysis:
Staff has reviewed the low bidder documents
and has found them to be in order and reference calls have been
supportive of the contractor’s work habits.
Fiscal Impact
:
The CDBG Fund of $787,759 for ADA Compliance Project
#D96256-97 will be impacted by $20,000.
