PROJECT NO. CIP 00-139 HERMOSA/MANHATTAN AVENUE STREET IMPROVEMENTS
FROM 16TH STREET TO 26TH STREET AND 19TH STREET FROM HERMOSA AVENUE
TO MONTEREY BOULEVARD - APPROVAL OF PLANS, SPECIFICATIONS
AND ADVERTISE FOR BIDS

Recommendation:

It is recommended that the City Council:

  1. Approve the plans, specifications, estimates, order the work and call for bids; and
  2. Instruct the City Clerk to post a Notice Inviting Sealed Bids for said project.

Background:

On April 25, 2000, City Council approved the First Amendment to the Professional Services Agreement between the City of Hermosa Beach and DMR Team, Inc. to prepare plans, specifications and estimates for Project No. CIP 00-139 Hermosa/Manhattan Avenue Street Improvements. The list of limits for this project is as follows:

  • Hermosa Avenue Between 16th Street and 26th Street

  • Greenwich Village Between 26th Street and 27th Street

  • Manhattan Avenue From 27th Street to northerly city boundary

  • 19th Street Between Hermosa Avenue and Monterey Boulevard

This project is a continuation of improvements to Project No. CIP 95-150 Hermosa Avenue Street Improvements from Pier Avenue to 16th Street that was completed February of 2001.

Because the engineer’s estimate for construction is over the available funding, Staff is recommending that the project be constructed in two phases to meet the available funding. The first phase of construction, Hermosa Avenue from 16th Street to 26th Street and 19th Street from Hermosa Avenue to Monterey Boulevard, is scheduled for construction in the spring of this year. The second phase of construction, Greenwich Village from 26th Street to 27th Street and Manhattan Avenue from 27th Street to northerly city boundary, is programmed for the Fall of 2001.

The proposed work consists of street resurfacing, replacing various concrete wheelchair ramps, driveway approaches, cross-gutters and a small amount of sidewalk replacement within the limits of work.

The plans, specifications and estimates are available in the office of the Director of Public Works/City Engineer for review.

Fiscal Impact:

The engineer’s estimate for the first phase of construction is $467,000 and the second phase of construction is $440,000. Construction will be funded from the STPL Fund, Prop C Fund, AB2928/Traffic Congestion Relief Fund and Capital Improvements Fund.
