PROJECT NO. CIP 99-627 COMMUNITY CENTER IMPROVEMENTS 
FENCING - AWARD OF CONSTRUCTION CONTRACT

 

Recommendation:

It is recommended that the City Council:

1. Award the construction contract for Project No. CIP 99-627 Community Center Improvements - Fencing to Ace Fence Company of the City of Industry, California, in the amount of $53,750.00;
2. Authorize the Mayor to execute and the City Clerk to attest the construction contract subject to approval by the City Attorney; and
3. Authorize the Director of Public Works to make minor changes as necessary not to exceed $6,250.00.

 

Background:

On November 14, 2000, the City Council authorized advertising for bids. The project was advertised in the Easy Reader, Beach Reporter, and Green Sheet (Construction News Reporter). A total of five bid packages were picked up. The City Clerk received three bids by the closing date of December 7, 2000. The bids were publicly opened and read aloud. The bid results are as follows:

3. Dorals Fence Co. Newhall $77,475.00

The engineer’s estimate is $57,000.00. The apparent low bidder is 6% lower than the engineer’s estimate.

 

Analysis:

Staff has reviewed the low bidder documents and has found them to be in order. The reference check on Ace Fence Co. has been conducted and the firm is found to be satisfactory.

 

Fiscal Impact:

Funds are available for construction in FY 2000-01 in account number 125-8627-4201. The low bid price of $53,750.00 plus contingency of $6,250.00 brings the construction project budget to $60,000.00.

 

Alternatives:

1. Approve staff’s recommendation.
2. Reject all bids. Send back to staff for downscope of project.
3. Take no action.
