AWARD PURCHASE OF NEW CITY VEHICLE – PAINT TRUCK

 

Recommendation:

It is recommended that the City Council:

1. Award the purchase of a new City paint/sign truck for the Public Works Department to Line Master Engineering of Long Beach, California in the amount of $69,199.22; and
2. Authorize Staff to issue the appropriate purchase documents as required.

 

Background:

A total of $80,000 has been allocated in the current budget for replacement of this vehicle.

Analysis:

The truck cab and chassis is a Ford F Series in order to maintain continuity of fleet appearance and replacement parts inventory. The truck body is a multi-use unit containing paint pumps, cone and stencil racks, double facing arrow boards and a hydraulic pole puller. The body manufacturer is the primary contractor. This purchase would be piggybacked with the City of Torrance’s January truck order. Line Master Engineering manufactured the current paint/sign vehicle. The lead-time after receipt of order is 90-120 days.

 

Fiscal Impact:

Funds in the amount of $80,000 were allocated in the current (FY 00-01) budget for replacement of this vehicle.

 

Alternatives:

1. Accept the piggyback purchase method and award the purchase to Line Master Engineering of Long Beach.
2. Re-bid the vehicle, delaying delivery.
