SAND AND STRAND RUN PARKING WAIVER

Recommendation

It is recommended by staff that Council waive parking fees and time limits for the meters during the Sand and Strand Run on Sunday, February 11, 2001, from 7:00 am to 12 noon. The waiver is requested for the meters on both sides of Pier Avenue from Manhattan Avenue to Hermosa Avenue, and, on Hermosa Avenue between 8 th and 16 th Streets.

Background

The Sand and Strand Run is an annual Hermosa Beach event, now in it’s 49th year. The run is unique because 55% of the run is on the sand and 45% of the run is on the Strand. In addition to the run, there are activities and running events for children. The event is co-sponsored by the City and PROJECTtouch, with proceeds being divided equally. PROJECTtouch is a local non-profit agency serving at risk youth and families since 1973.

Analysis

In previous years, similar requests for waiver of parking fees have been made to City Council and have been approved. The approval of this request would maintain the consistency of one of Hermosa Beach’s most popular community events and would encourage race participation.

Fiscal Impact: Maximum potential usage = $275
