VARIOUS LOCATIONS –
Recommendation : It is recommended that the City Council:
Background : The pavement on 10th Street, 50 feet east of Ardmore Avenue, caved in due to a collapsed sewer line. The City contacted six contractors for this emergency repair. In addition, contractors currently under contract with the City were contacted to bid. On March 14, 2001, Staff met with four of the contractors at the job site and provided them with a copy of the bid package. Due to the emergency nature of the work, no advertising was done. The City Clerk received one bid by the closing date of March 15, 2001, therefore, the informal bid deadline for this emergency work was extended to March 19, 2001. The City did not receive any other bids by the second closing date. The single bid was publicly opened and read aloud. The bid result is as follows:
Analysis: Reference checks revealed that EC Construction Co. has an excellent work and performance reputation. Staff recommends an award be made to EC Construction Co. in the amount of $30,892.50 to start work immediately to repair the street to eliminate the inconvenience to residents and to minimize the City’s potential for liability. The $50,000 transferred from the Sewer Fund will be used for the construction of the sewer line and pavement restoration of the collapsed street. The balance of $19,107.50 from the Sewer Fund will be available for contingencies.
Fiscal Impact: It is anticipated that $30,892.50 of the $50,000 Sewer Fund will cover the construction costs for this emergency repair. The remaining $19,107.50 will be used for contingencies, if necessary.
