City of Hermosa Beach --- 01-09-01

PETITION FROM RESIDENTS ON 30TH STREET TO CLOSE 30TH   STREET AT THE WEST END OF THE BMW PROPERTY.

Recommendation: That the City Council receive the petition from residents in the area requesting that 30th Street be closed and that stop signs be installed a 30th Street and Ardmore and refer this to the Public Works Commission for its review and recommendation.

Background: Staff held a meeting with area residents and representatives from the BMW store to consider several issues of interest to the residents and the business operator. One of the outcomes from the meeting was that the residents wanted the City to consider closing 30th Street at the western edge of the BMW property. This location would allow the business to use the street for its activities and prevent through traffic from entering the residential area. A copy of the petition is attached for you review.

It is suggested that the City Council refer this petition to the Public Works Commission for a report and recommendation. This will allow for notice to be provided to area residents and business and an opportunity for those interested to attend a public hearing on the request. The City’s traffic engineer will also be able to provide input that the Commission and the residents may wish to consider. The Public Works Commission would hear this at their February meeting.
