NEW YEAR’S EVE CELEBRATION:
Recommendation Staff recommends that Council:
Background At the October 10, 2000, meeting, Council directed staff to assemble a community program for New Year’s Eve, 2000-2001. Council directed that the New Year’s celebration should include the Big Band from last season with a more modest celebration than the one conducted at the Millennium.
Analysis The 1999-2000 celebration cost over $70,000 to produce. All funds used for the celebration came from the brick sale fundraiser and corporate donations. The recommended budget would come from the City’s DEC Fund. The appropriation is necessary as the Special Event Account Funds derived from donations and Plaza Promotions was depleted considerably with the Port Call event. The Special Events account still maintains $11,074.62 for future use for the Saint Patrick’s Day Parade. In addition, the City still has four (4) available slots for Plaza promotions at $10,000 each. Pending applicants, this program could provide additional funds to the Special Events account prior to the end of the Fiscal year.
FISCAL IMPACT: Estimated DEC Fund balance after appropriation: $606,453.61
