LETTER TO GOVERN DAVIS SUPPORTING THE LOCAL GOVERNMENT FINANCE PROVISIONS IN THE STATE BUDGET

Recommendation:

1. That the City Council authorize a letter of support for the Local Government Finance Provisions; and,
   
2. That the City Council express its appreciation to Assemblymember George Nakano for his efforts as Chair of the Budget Subcommittee.

Background:

The State budget for the first time since the State took a significant amount of property tax in 1993 has a plan to begin restoring this revenue source to local government. The attached letter from Assemblymember George Nakano details the program. The next step is to get the Governor to support it once the budget is presented to him. A letter expressing the City's support would be helpful.
