REQUEST FROM HERMOSA BEACH CHAMBER OF COMMERCE AND VISITORS' BUREAU TO HOLD THE 2001 MEMORIAL DAY "FIESTA HERMOSA" ON
MAY 26-28, 2001 ON THE PLAZA AND DOWNTOWN AREA

 

Recommendation:

1. That the City Council approve the "Fiesta Hermosa" on May 26-28, 2001.
2. Waive application, banner and amplification fees as a non-profit organization and bill only for actual costs incurred by police and public works for various direct services provided.
3. Consider the Chamber's request for $3000 in Proposition C Transportation Funds for the shuttle service.

Background:

The letter from the Chamber of Commerce outlines the Fiesta event that is similar to past events. The subcommittee of Councilmembers Edgerton and Oakes met with the Chamber officials last month to discuss the event and possibility for a change of format from the Labor Day event. The Chamber has indicated that they will present some alternatives for the Labor Day weekend before the end of May. Once they have completed work on the alternatives, it would be a good idea for the subcommittee and Chamber officials to meet as soon as possible so that any selected alternative can be effectively implemented by Labor Day.
