a.) Surfers Walk of Fame

Recommendation : To approve a location and design for the surfers' walk of fame.


b.) Aloha Days Committee : Request for Approval of "Aloha Days" Longboard Surf Contest & Hawaiian Festival

Recommendation: Staff recommends that the Commission: 1. Approve the request from the Aloha Days Committee to hold a surf competition and "Aloha Days" celebration on Saturday, August 14, 1999. 2. Approve the event contract. 3. Forward fee waiver, funding requests and event contract to City Council for consideration.


c.) Field Rental Fee Waiver Request United States Youth Volleyball League

Recommendation: Staff recommends that the Commission approve an hourly fee of $12 for the use of South Park Field for the United States Youth Volleyball League (USYVL.)


d.) Community Center Conceptual Plan

Recommendation: Staff recommends that the Commission: 1. Listen to a subcommittee report (Commissioner Abrams) about potential exterior improvements to the Center. 2. Take public input regarding user needs. 3. Generate a list of recommended improvements for the Community Center complex. (Conceptual plans available for review in the Community Resources Office.)


e.) Lease Renewal Agreement between the City of Hermosa Beach and the Community Center Foundation for Room C in the Community Center

Recommendation: To approve the attached lease agreement between the City and the Community Center Foundation for the use of Room C in the Community Center.


f.) Application for Commercial Event: Los Angeles Rugby Club , Makai Events

Recommendation: Staff recommends that the Commission approve the event application and contract for: 1. Makai Events, Los Angeles Rugby Club, August 7-8, 1999, with estimated fees of $7,065.50; and, 2. Forward the recommendation and event contract to City Council for final review.


g.) Youth Club Teams : Use of Community Center Gymnasium

Recommendation: To approve a policy that would reduce the gymnasium rental rate for Hermosa Beach Youth Club teams from $30 per hour to $12 per hour.

Recommendation to receive and file action minutes form the Parks, Recreation and Community Resources Advisory Commission Meeting of March 2, 1999.

Action : Receive and file.


Recommendation to approve lease agreement between the City and Project Touch for the use of Room 3 in the Community Center.

Action: Approved.


Recommendation to appropriate donations of $250 from the Woman's Club of Hermosa Beach and $800 from Aubrey Organics, Inc. to the Community Resources Department; and $531.60 from South Bay Dare fair to the Police Department.

Action: Approve acceptance of donations.


Recommendation to approve the use of the Community Center lawn by the Kiwanis Club to operate a holiday tree lot for the 1999 holiday season.

Action: Approve the use of the Community Center lawn.


1999 Commercial Event Applications.

Action: To approve California Sports Festival-IMG for June 10-13, 1999, with fees of $34,672, as recommended by the Parks, Recreation and Community Resources Advisory Commission and staff, with direction to return to Council with a finalized music package.


Request for waiver of application of the automatic vacancy for absences for Parks, Recreation and Community Resources Advisory Commissioner, Todd Kuh.

Action: Approved.
