No matter where you live in town you are affected by the downtown scene's heavy demand for city services, particularly police.  Since the police spend much of their time downtown, they have less time to patrol your part of town, so you are left more vulnerable to crime.  The police department has a finite budget, so heavy nighttime / end-of-week staffing also means there is less staffing during the daytime and earlier in the week.  (This is not secret "inside" information.)

The staffing imbalance is not the police department's fault.  This City has a legal obligation to provide for the public safety of the large number of visitors downtown; we believe that as things stand presently, the police department does not have the option to reduce the staffing downtown.

Increasing the restaurant/bar space on the Plaza can only add to the number of people downtown, and the downtown's demand for police services.
