Approval of September 2, 2003 Minutes

Motion: "To approve as submitted."

Correspondence

Addendum letter from Jeff Duclos regarding further action from Commission to look into natural means of pest management.

Action: "To direct staff to contact cities who have used natural means of pest management and to have Mike Flaherty follow up with the Proposed IPM Program/Policy referred to in the July 27, 1999 Council agenda item included with Mr. Duclos' letter."

Public Comment:

Elaine Doerfling, City Clerk, reminded everyone that the Women's Club Pancake Breakfast is October 19th from 8:00am to noon.

Matters for Commission Consideration

  1. World Aids Day (PDF File)

    Recommendation: "To approve request to hold World Aids Day event on Sunday, November 30, 2003 at the Pier Head and forward fee waivers to City Council."

    Recommendation: "To discuss selection of committee members and establish criteria required for induction to Surfer's Walk of Fame as well as event timeline.

Commissioner's Reports

City Tree Subcommittee Report - Sigler
Pete Tucker, Mike Flaherty and Jean Lombardo, the City Tree Subcommittee, were in attendance and presented a report encompassing pertinent information in regards to approved trees for the City. They asked the Commission to review and support forwarding the report and suggestions to City Council. The Commission was unanimous in this request.
Sunset Concert Series Subcommittee - Sigler
The subcommittee is looking to hold five or six summer concerts in 2004. Sponsorship is being addressed and Pier Construction during the summer is also a topic of concern.
Hermosa Arts Foundation Report - Hollander
The Arts Foundation donated three concrete picnic tables and had them delivered to the west side of the Community Center. The CLO is presenting "8 Track" from Oct. 7 through Oct. 19 and the HAF Community Outreach is currently presenting "No Justice, No Peace" Wed. and Thurs. through November 6th. October 25th will be the Last Saturday Puppet Show which is always a great day for all.
Friends of the Park - Hollander
Friends of the Park's fundraiser is Saturday, October 18th from 10 am to 2 pm at Fort Lots of Fun (Prospect and 5th). Vendors will be there to show options for new park equipment and community involvement is highly encouraged.
Museum Subcommittee Report - Fishman
Members are planning a clean up, demolition and a paint job for the expansion of the museum. The annual meeting will be held March 5, 2004 with a gala fund raiser planned for later April, early May.
Picnic Subcommittee Wrap Up Report - Francis
A great time was had by all! Thank yous went out to all who participated in the dunk tank. The 3rd annual picnic came in under budget with a lot more people attending than in previous years.

Items Requested by Commissioners

Commissioner Fishman again requested improvements to Edith Rodaway Park perhaps using an art element on the paint walls.

It was suggested that The Wave bus transportation be mentioned in the next Park and Recreation Brochure.
